HERITAGE PLUS Posted 15 April , 2009 Share Posted 15 April , 2009 In May 1916 John James Bailey of the Gloucestershire Regiment was charged with the attempted murder of Rhoda White. Rhoda was employed by the British American Tobacco Company and met the 22 year old soldier in the Bear and Rugged Staff. She agreed to meet him again the next night, when they went to the Star at Lawrence Hill. At about 9pm they went down a narrow path leading to her home in Tenby Street. Suddenly he produced a knife or razor and cut her throat. She was sent to the Infirmary and recovered. Bailey was stationed at Horfield Barracks and had taken part in Gallipoli Can anyone through any more light on this incident? Thanks Dave
