Chris_Baker Posted 13 April , 2009 Posted 13 April , 2009 Kirk was attached as MO to a battalion of the Gordons in France in March 1916. In November 1917 he sustained injuries when thrown from a horse. Can anyone please identify the battalion?

(?) - Refer entry for Miss WM Stubbs. Missionary China - Brother of Dr John Kirk; student Edinburgh; he was one of the student Missionary volunteers, accepted at 1907 General Assembly. Rep: he sits final medical examinations May 1908; he came to NZ in1909 to join his brother as Medical Missionary in China; Ordained as Elder before he left for Canton China Nov 1909. On outbreak of WW1 he became a Lieutenant in RAMC & arrived in France 10.2.1916; in March attached to Gordon Highlanders. He was seriously injured 13.11.1917; he obtained his FRCS (Edinburgh) 1917; married in Canada to Winnie M. Stubbs, who went to Canton as a Nurse on Mission staff. On recovering he returned to Missionary service in Canton 31.12.1926, but political conditions made it impossible for work to resume in Canton, and he left to take a position in a Chinese controlled Medical College at Changsha, where he was Associate Professor of Anatomy from 1.1.1927 One record indicates that he took a position in 1926 on the staff of St John’s University in Shanghai. In 1928 he was resident in Hong Kong holding an appointment under the Colony Government in connexion with Chinese Hospitals. He withdrew from Missions staff on entering Government service. Noted as being Doctor in Stanley Internment Camp in Hong Kong during World War II. Lived in London during retirement. Died circa 1963 Can't find any other info Diane
