Although the medal card for Arthur Augusta Morgan identify this soldier has being KIA 3 Jan 1917 whilst serving with the Dorset Regt; he enlisted into the Somerset Light Infantry, service number 9939. Can someone please check the SDGW for other information such as Bn etc. Trying to piece together his movements during the war.

Thanks, Roy

'Casualty Books' in this context are akin to Muster Rolls and do not specifically referred to killed and wounded. They seem to vary from unit to unit, but basically record a soldier's record with the Battalion. Promotions, wounds dates of joining leaving etc. The quality and amount of information varies likewise, some complete some just a list of names.

The book for the 6th Battalion SLI is at the Somerset Light Infantry Archive in Taunton. In this case it an annotated nominal roll

The entry reads

9939 Morgan Arthur Augusta

Church of England

B Company

Attested 25th August 1814

Age 28years 5 months

Height 5ft 11in

Trade Ironworker

Next of Kin Mother

George Hotel

Brithdir

There is no reference to dates of joining or leaving the Battalion
