Beery Posted 12 April , 2009 Posted 12 April , 2009 According to my research, 1st (East Riding) Field Company was renamed 529th Field Company sometime during 1917, along with the rest of the Royal Engineer companies. My relative's service number seems to have been changed at about the same time (he went from T1126 to 474642). Since he died in June 1917, the renumbering must have happened in early 1917 (assuming the change did occur in 1917). Can anyone tell me exactly when the Royal Engineers renumbered all their companies, and if the individual soldiers' service numbers would have been changed at the same time?
