Geflg = Gefangenenlager = Prisoner of War Camp

The camp is Dulmen and is a head camp or registration camp. Few prisoners spent any length of time in a head camp as most were moved to work camps though their address and registration would remain as the head camp.

A search of this part of the forum will reveal some photographs of the camp.

A plan of the camp and some good info is in "Prisoners of the Kaiser; The last POWs of the Great War"; Richard van Emden; Pen and Sword Books Limited; Barnsley; 2000

Other references are as follows;

Tommy at Gommecourt; Thomas James Higgins; Churnet Valley Books; Staffordshire; 2005 Captured in 1917, he was taken to Dülmen, Soltau, Elbingerode, Ronneberg, Hameln, Munster, Kohlenbissen, Ottersberg and Drentwede.

Die Kriegsgefangenen in Deutschland; Prof Backhaus

In the Prison Camps of Germany, a Narrative of Y Service among Prisoner of War; Conrad Hoffman

Miscellaneous No 26 (1916) Further Correspondence with the United States Ambassador respecting the Treatment of British Prisoners of War and Interned Civilians in Germany; Cd 8297
