Thanks for that, much appreciated.....Roy. Lived in Aberdare has thrown me. He was a twenty four-year old miner on the 1901 census living at home. I guess he must have relocated to Aberdare in search of work and the reason he enlisted at Neath. His mother was living at Bristol Terrace, Brithdir and most likely why his name is remembered on the Brithdir cenotaph. Any thoughts?

Further to the above his MIC shows that he deployed to France 25 July 1915 and is entitled to a 1915 Star trio, served with 8th Bn Devon Regt. (corrected)

Thanks Mutley

By the 1915 Star trio can I presume you mean the Victory, British and Star medals? Also the CWGC show he served with the 8th Devonshire?

Sorry to be so inept but I am trying, honest........Roy

Sorry my mistake yes he was 8th Bn. Yes he would have been entitled to a 1915 Star, War Medal and Victory medal.

At the time of his death I belive the Bn was in the line in the Givenchy sector where it remained until December when it moved south to the Somme.
