MelPack Posted 9 April , 2009 Posted 9 April , 2009 Ben It is a Medal Index Card (MIC), a proportion of which are available from Ancestry for a subscription. Your GG was commissioned so there will be a separate file for him at the National Archives. It will also be worthwhile your ordering the War Diary for the 17th Btn RF for the period November 1915 to July 1916 and the 9ths (assuming his posting as an officer was with the same battalion) from Novemmber 1916 until his death. Mel ok will do, i have most of his records with me and a copy of the war diary but thank you:)
Steven Broomfield Posted 9 April , 2009 Posted 9 April , 2009 And judging by the fact that 17th November 1915 was the date the 17th RF went to France, then we can assume he proceeded overseas with that battalion. And, indeed, the history of the 17th RF confirms he was a Sergeant with D Company when they went overseas.

MelPack Posted 9 April , 2009 Posted 9 April , 2009 Ben If you post the details of your gg's service record that you already have then other posters may be able to flesh it out. Mel
