Auto Posted 9 April , 2009 Posted 9 April , 2009 Hello, I have a single victory medal named D-502 Pte. G. Stribling 2-D.GDS, however his MIC states 2nd Royal Dragoons and his pension papers on ancestry show Royal Scots Greys. Any ideas why his medal is named 2nd Dragoon Guards? Thanks, David.
nthornton1979 Posted 9 April , 2009 Posted 9 April , 2009 Does the MIC state any change of regiment or service number ? I think the Victory medal was named to the first unit the soldier served with so he could have transfered to another later at a later date. Neil
welshdoc Posted 9 April , 2009 Posted 9 April , 2009 It is probably simply an error by the person who impresssed the name on the medals, about 5% of all WW1 medals seem to have discrepancies between what is on the medal and what is recorded on the MIC. Often its simply difficult to read the handwriting. There are also erors between what is on the MIC and what is shown on the national archive online search database. Gareth
welshdoc Posted 9 April , 2009 Posted 9 April , 2009 Very clearly an error on the part of the person impressing the names on the medals. My best one is a Royal Dublin Fusilier with RWF as his regiment.
