Keith Hi Keith - am looking for someone with the 98th Brigade RFA (22nd Division) WW1 war diary. Do you have that by any chance or know anyone who may have it? Thanks Angela
Rockdoc Posted 1 September , 2009 Author Posted 1 September , 2009 I'm afraid the 98th Brigade RFA is a different beast to the 98th Anti-Aircraft Section RGA, Angela, and I have nothing for it. The Diary for the Brigade is at Kew under WO95/4845 and WO95/4883. Have you tried getting "Under the Devil's Eye", by Forum Pals Alan Wakefield and Simon Moody, though your library? It's been out of print for a while but is an excellent overview of the neglected Salonika Front. There's also the Salonika Campaign Society. Keith

I had a quick route through the forum and came across recommendations for the book you quote (which I shall pursue) and the website which I juat had a v quick look at. Have been to Kew today and only at the end of the day did I finally discover my grandfather's unit! I shall have to take a return trip asap. He received the Medaille d'Honneur avec Glaves Bronze as a Corporal for service in Salonika towards the end of WW1 so am hoping to try to find out more about why the French would have given him a medal. I don't yet have his record as he was a regular until after WW2 and have to ask an aged aunt who is NOK to sign the form for the record from the MOD (doesn't sound much of an obstacle but it is!!!). Thnaks so much for the swift reply Angela
