After looking at a photo posted by WithDoubleBass in the Soldiers forum, I became curious about the possibility of an 11th Bn man going on a training couse with the 10th Bn. Would that have happened (before they went to France)? What kind of course would have squads of around 15 led by a Lance Corporal? The L/Cpl in the photo has a trade badge on his lower left arm, but it's too indistinct to make out.

Is there any reason why 10th Bn men would have their tunic buttons polished, whereas the photo I have of my great grandfather (11th Bn) doesn't show polished buttons. It could be the photo was taken before he had spent much time with the Battalion (he's holding his swagger stick as if it's about to go off in his hand), but maybe someone knows of a different reason.

Difficult to see why they would train together in the light of the following:

10 Bn formed Bury Lancs Sep 1914-joined 52 Bde of 17 Div and landed in France Jul 1915.

11 Bn formed Codford Wilts Oct 1914-joined 74 Bde of 25 Div and landed in France Sep 1915.

There is a question as to where they collected together somewhere "down south" prior to shipping out, which MIGHT have seen some joint training. That might be mentioned in the books that I have heard of about the LF.
