Kevin,

RAF other ranks records are stored at the National Archives, sorted by RAF number. 265624 Frank Dobson should be stored under:

Piece details AIR 79/2342

AIR Records created or inherited by the Air Ministry, the Royal Air Force, and related bodies

Division within AIR Records of the Department of the Master General of Personnel and the Air Member for Personnel

AIR 79 Air Ministry: Air Member for Personnel and predecessors: Airmen's Records

Record Summary

Scope and content 265612 - 265730

Availability Open Document, Open Description, Open Immediately

Former reference (Department) 265612 - 265730

Held by The National Archives, Kew

These are not online but a digital copy of the record can be requested.

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalog...;accessmethod=0

You will need to Click on "Request This" and specify his number and name. The NA will then give you an estimate of how much it will cost.

Steve.

Kevin

Frank Dobson with that RAF number has a medal card on Ancestry that shows he was previously 3427 6th London Regiment - see -

http://www.1914-1918.net/london.htm

post-16016-1239068551.jpg

He also has a few pages of his records on Ancestry - I'll have a look through and see what else it tells us

Cheers

Kevin - before you spend any money ordering the RAF record from the NA - you might want to double check this is the same Frank Dobson you are after - whilst of course your man may well have lied about his age - he is shown on this record on Ancestry as being 20 on May 3rd 1915 (when signing up as 3427 in 3/6th City of London Rifles) - though he was only 5 feet 31/2 inches tall!!. If your date of birth is right he was only just 16 at that time

He was recorded as having previously served with 15th Batt Kings Royal Rifles - "Discharged for short breath, now declares quite fit"

His address was given as 4 Mantle Street, Liverpool Road, Islington - and his father was shown a NoK - also Frank at the same address

He served 354 days with 6th London - including 50 days in France from 26th January to 15th March 1916 and was discharged 20th April 1916 - "No longer physically fit for war service"

If it is the same man - I can send you the pages from Ancestry if you PM me your email address

Cheers

Sue
