philprice Posted 6 April , 2009 Share Posted 6 April , 2009 I am going to the area in a couple of weeks and wonder if anyone knows of any monuments, cemetaries, museums etc which would give me some information about the battle. I realise that it was predominently a French action but maybe some of you have been to the area. The reason for the interest was that my granfather served in a French hospital unit based mostly at Fismes I believe. Phil P
trenchtrotter Posted 6 April , 2009 Share Posted 6 April , 2009 Fismes itself has a bridge commemorating an American Div in 1918. The area is most interesting but you will need a guide book. There are the 1917 battlefields, monuments from the British in 1914 and 18 in the area and of course the 1917 Chemin de Danes area has cemeteries, monuments, the Cavern du Dragon museum / caves and near Reims is the Fort de Pompelle. Lots to see and do...get researching on the web, search threads here and if you can get Before Endevours Fade by Rose Coombes...that will give you sort of itinery. Pierre Grande Guerre Posted 6 April , 2009 Share Posted 6 April , 2009 Maybe my photo impressions of the Aisne sector, and especially the Chemin des Dames, may be helpful and inspiring, Phil. Click, please, HERE . Good Luck! Pierre
