paul swann Posted 5 April , 2009 Share Posted 5 April , 2009 Can the Linesman device be hired for a daily rate, or is it strickley a purchase only option? To buy the PDA + software it someware in the region of £350? Just trying to keep costs down in these uncertain times. Thank you in advance Paul. Brian Curragh Posted 5 April , 2009 Share Posted 5 April , 2009 Paul I'm not aware of anyone who hires them - I bought mine & very pleased with it. Brian
iain mchenry Posted 5 April , 2009 Share Posted 5 April , 2009 Paul, I also dont know of any for rent. It is a pricey article with the pda and the Belgium upgrade as well, but if you are a regular visitor to the battlefields it is worth its weight in gold. regards Iain
paul swann Posted 5 April , 2009 Author Share Posted 5 April , 2009 Hello Brian, Like you say everybody who has one is very happy. My problem is that I visit the Front once maybe twice a year & therefore can not justefy the outlay.
Chris_Baker Posted 5 April , 2009 Share Posted 5 April , 2009 Here's a lower cost alternative. Hardware ====== 1. Trench map. 2. IGN Blue map. Software ====== 1. Brain. Ideal for the odd trip!

Paul Reed Posted 5 April , 2009 Share Posted 5 April , 2009 Here's a lower cost alternative. Hardware ====== 1. Trench map. 2. IGN Blue map. Software ====== 1. Brain. Ideal for the odd trip! Absolutely, but Linesman has proved that despite many years of visiting battlefields, and using this hard-copy sources, it is easy to get things wrong. No serious visitor can really be without it, but if you are only an infrequent visitor, then I suspect it would be hard to justify.
keithfazzani Posted 5 April , 2009 Share Posted 5 April , 2009 Of course you also get that large number of trench maps plus modern aerial views on your PC, this in itself is invaluable. I only make three or four trips a year but the Linesman system has added greatly to my knowledge. I must admit however that i am pretty useless with a map and a compass so modern technology helps greatly.
