Steven Broomfield Posted 5 April , 2009 Posted 5 April , 2009 Found this unusual grave marker in Netley Hospital Cemetery, near where I live. Thought it was unuausl for a private soldier - I see he's a Leeds Pal. I thought any Leeds Pals buffs might be interested, and might know a bit more than his CWGC ENTRY
keithmroberts Posted 5 April , 2009 Posted 5 April , 2009 One of the newspaper extracts in Laurie Milner's book on the Leeds Pals mentions him. "Another of the Pals, Private John Edwin Balme, eldest son of Mr George P Balme, of Outwood, has died in Netley Hospital from his wounds. He was 26 years of age." Yorkshire Evening Post Monday July 10th 1916, reproduced on p156 of the book. Keith
