For Balkans - please read Gallipoli. He is named on the Helles Memorial at Gallipoli. 52 div were late arriving at Helles as reinforcements due to teh Gretna Rail crash whick killed alrge number of the Royal Scots Batt in the Div. However on 12 July the 52 div pushed batts including the 1/7th HLI into the attack on Achi Baba Nullah - designed to push forward the centre of the line at the Helles front parallel with flank lines captured in previous weeks. General Egerton on 52 Div was against the attack and described it as "positively wicked in conception and creuel and wasteful in execution" By evening of july 13 52 div which had landed on 6 June with 10,900 men was reduced to just over 6,500. One private of 42 east lancs div noted that Helles - "looked like a midden and smelt like an opened cemetery"
