Swally,

His pension records are on 'Ancestry', 23 pages of them! If you don't have access, let me know.

I don't have access pal, before you go to a lot of bother I need to make sure he is the right one!

The William Allan I am looking for was born in Aberdeen on 15th July 1895, son of Robert and Elsie and at this time would have been single.

Hi

The William Allan mentioned by Alf above was born in Edinburgh in 1871. He was a Lance Corporal but was reduced to a Private 20/01/1915. He was posted from the 3rd Royal Scots to the 1st Royal Scots 02/02/1915 and entered France on that date. He was wounded with a GSW to his nose and eye on 17/02/1915 and was posted to the Depot on 04/03/1915 then the 3rd Royal Scots 18/06/1915. He was discharged 22/08/1916 having qualified for a pension having served for 13 years, 9 days. His will was dated 12/02/1915 and was left to his wife who lived in Bothwell Street, Edinburgh. There is no mention of his parents.

Everything seems to fit your man except the parent’s names and the date of birth.

LIT,

Thanks for the reply, sadly this is not my man.

William didn't marry until 1926.

Back to the drawing board..............again!
