Peter furness Posted 4 April , 2009 Posted 4 April , 2009 My great grandfather was a member of the durham light infantry 19th battalion (nicknamed the bantams). Does anyone have any idea where they were stationed? My uncle said he was wounded at ypres - got bad shrapnel wounds to his legs and was sent home after that. 35793 private J Furness.
old-ted Posted 4 April , 2009 Posted 4 April , 2009 Hi Peter, your best bet is a book called "Durham Forces in the Field", It is a record of the DLI service battalions during WW1 from raising to being disbanded. It has been reprinted and is readily available. More recently John Sheen has written a book covering the Bantams. You could also do a search on the Long Long Trail wesite. See link at top of page. Regards John

There is an excellent summary of the 19th Battalion movements from enlistment on here under Units and Formations. Try a search and you will see a note from David Thompson who catalogued most of the DLI battalions in an attachment. Cant post exact thread title but search "19th DLI" and you should get the page I did ,gd luck
