Is this man wearing a MC? or possibly a Badge of the Order of the League of Mercy on a military uniform?

He is Captain Oliver P Beeman, Adjutant of 2/5th KOYLI and the photo taken April/May 1915 at Strensell, Yorks.

I can't find a MIC for him and none of the Gazette entries I have mention an MC or have MC after his name.

He became adjutant 2/1/1915 and I have a Battalion order of 28/3/1915 which he signs as Adjutant while in Nottingham.

He became a Captain 1/10/1914 in the 5th KOYLI. I think I'm right in saying the MC must date to after 31/12/1914 so that only leaves a month when he could have gone to France (with another battalion) before I can place him back in the UK.The 1/5th went to France 12/4/1915 and the 2/5th January 1917. I have lots of paperwork for the 2/5th in France up to June 1917 and not a mention of him at all. Despite his appearance he's only 26 in this photo (born 1889).If I've tracked the right man he emigrated to the USA and on his wife's death in 1966 called himself Major Oliver P Beeman but again, no mention of that in the Gazette.

Thanks

Thanks, missed that entry somehow. But still no MC after his name like the others on the same page. I still can't see how he recieved an MC given his mainly UK history. I have found out since my first post that he returned to the UK in Oct 1914 from USA and then went back sometime after. If the ribbon is not MC could it be an American award?

Thanks

If he was a Captain in 1915 then he is a Pre war regular so this could be the 1911 award from India (Delhi Dunbar), where are the medal experts when you need them!

Not an MC close up has two close lines and not the solid one of the MC.
