pier Posted 3 April , 2009 Posted 3 April , 2009 Hello all I e-mailed the red cross back in November about my Grandad, they just replied and said they need his service no and unit, i have no idea how or if i can find them ? His name was John Thompson 24/6/1891 born in Islington London He survived the war, and we know he was pow for some time, and thats all ! Thank you for any help or advice Londongirl x
bootneck Posted 3 April , 2009 Posted 3 April , 2009 Londongirl Do you know where he was living in 1918-19? The local Absent Votors Lists, if they survive, should have this information. I would also suggest looking at local newspapers and the local Roll of Honour. I am also assuming no one in the family has his medals or any photographs of him in uniform, which would help with your enquiry. regards Bootneck

TEW Posted 4 April , 2009 Posted 4 April , 2009 Ancestry has 1662 John Thompsons with medal index cards, as an example the Northumberland Fusiliers had 101 John Thompsons within thier ranks. Somehow you're going to have to get more info. TEW
