Hi All

Just picked up a nice mons trio named 15417 SAPR A. HOWITT R.E. Ancestry is giving his unit as '2nd Bud Tank Regiment RE'. Can anyone expand on 2nd Bud Tank Regiment RE or has Ancestry got it wrong?

Regards

No such things as Tanks in that sense in 1914. The first part certainly looks like "Bud", but the other part isn't clear.

Just out of interest, Nos 1 and 2 Bridging Trains were heavyweight units. They carried 42 pontoons, 16 bridging trestles all pulled by some 350 horses. The war diaries of both units are at the NA, but you will need to look under Nos 1 and 2 Pontoon Parks which incorporates their early BEF history.
