Hello,

A friends father-in-law won the Military Medal during the Great War,i'm trying to find more information on him,he was:

Name/rank : Sgt Frederick Albert Hingly.

Number: 52346.

Regiment: Welsh horse 9th Lancers machine gun cavalry corps.

He won his Military Medal for leaving the trenches under heavy machine gun fire and saving an injured man, being shot in the lung in the process. He survived the war and lived untill he was 77.Can anyone help with the following:

A copy of his medal index card.

A copy of the citation for his Military Medal.

A summary of service for The Welsh Horse 9th Lancers.

A copy of any records relating to his wound.

A copy of any records relating to the award of his silver wound badge.

A copy of any records relating to his discharge from service under the Kings Regulations.

Any photos or anything else relating to Frederick.

Also where was Frederick fighting when he was injured?

Its a lot to ask,but thanks in advance,

Anthony.

Not on that Medal Index Card, it's primary use was to record the 'campaign' medal entitlement, some of these cards are annotated with MM, DCM etc. after the name but these are the exception rather than the rule.

There is a separate series of medal cards that record the gallantry awards, some are available on Ancestry but not the MM I believe. The MM card can be downloaded from the NA site for a couple of quid....

Description Medal card of Hingley, F A

Corps Regiment No Rank

Machine Gun Corps 52346 Serjeant

Date 1914-1920

Catalogue reference WO 372/23

Link to it is Here

The card will tell you what issue of the London Gazette the MM was promulgated in which happens to be issue #30897, dated 13th September 1918.

Detail recorded is.... 52346 Sjt. F. A. Hingley, M.G. Corps (Gloucester).

Link to the Gazette is Here

Steve
