Just found this man's details on CWGC, presumably the details of his death were inserted by his family.

I can think of at least two people who were awarded the VC in similar circumstances.

Additional information: Son of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Wright, of Barrow-on-Soar, Leicestershire. Enlisted at 17 years of age; served through Irish rebellion; killed in voluntary effort to carry mails to his comrades through enemy fire.

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
