I can think of at least two people who were awarded the VC in similar circumstances. Name: WRIGHT, BERNARD HORACE Initials: B H Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Private (Signaller) Regiment/Service: Leicestershire Regiment Unit Text: "A" Coy. 2nd/5th Bn. Age: 20 Date of Death: 02/04/1917 Service No: 240770 Additional information: Son of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Wright, of Barrow-on-Soar, Leicestershire. Enlisted at 17 years of age; served through Irish rebellion; killed in voluntary effort to carry mails to his comrades through enemy fire.
