A couple of things you may not have seen before. One to add to your next battlefield visit, perhaps. Taken on a rather dull and overcast day in February.

Thanks Chris. I always like to see stuff about the lesser known participants. It looks like a very nice memorial. Was it erected on the site of a ruined church or is that collapsed wall part of the design?

ps. regarding the Portuguese, How is the Battle of the Lys book coming along?

As far as I can tell the "ruined building" look is simply part of the memorial. Closer up, it's a bit grisly and not to everyone's taste. But it's certainly different.

The Lys is coming along nicely and I hope to finish it in late autumn, but it probably won't see a bookshelf until next year.

I've seen that memorial, quite different. The Portuguese cemetery at La Bombe is in bad need of headstone renovation, they are largely illegible.

Very true, Paul. No gravestone inscriptions in this pic, but they do seem worse every time I go. The grass had been cut in February, though.
