Chris_Baker Posted 30 March , 2009 Share Posted 30 March , 2009 A couple of things you may not have seen before. One to add to your next battlefield visit, perhaps. Taken on a rather dull and overcast day in February. Portuguese memorial in Vieille Chapelle:

ulsterlad2 Posted 1 April , 2009 Share Posted 1 April , 2009 Thanks Chris. I always like to see stuff about the lesser known participants. It looks like a very nice memorial. Was it erected on the site of a ruined church or is that collapsed wall part of the design? ps. regarding the Portuguese, How is the Battle of the Lys book coming along? Chris_Baker Posted 1 April , 2009 Author Share Posted 1 April , 2009 As far as I can tell the "ruined building" look is simply part of the memorial. Closer up, it's a bit grisly and not to everyone's taste. But it's certainly different. The Lys is coming along nicely and I hope to finish it in late autumn, but it probably won't see a bookshelf until next year.
paul guthrie Posted 1 April , 2009 Share Posted 1 April , 2009 I've seen that memorial, quite different. The Portuguese cemetery at La Bombe is in bad need of headstone renovation, they are largely illegible.
Chris_Baker Posted 1 April , 2009 Author Share Posted 1 April , 2009 Very true, Paul. No gravestone inscriptions in this pic, but they do seem worse every time I go. The grass had been cut in February, though.
