Hi Guys

I know this is a long shot, but is it possible to find out what ship a particular regiment went to France in?

The Regiment in question is the 1st Battalion, City of London Royal Fusilliers

They arrived at Le Havre on 11 mar 1915

At that stage in the war, (and if you haven't checked yet), it may be worth consulting "page one" of their war diary. The varying ships used to transport battalions do get mentioned from time to time by name.

Dianne,

The war diary states that they left Southampton at 6.15pm on the Munich, 10/3/15, 29 officers & 772 other ranks strength.

Arrived Le Havre at 1am on the 11th and disembarked at 7am proceeding to No.1 Rest Camp.

Thank you very much, that's excellent information which I dont currently have

I only have the diaries from July to October 1916, none from 1915

I only recently worked out how to get the war diaries, having previously thought that there were no diaries for the 1st Battalion

A note of caution, there could have been more than one ship called Munich at the time, it's best to confirm with another source such a Lloyd's Register.

I am surprised that the "Munich" retained her name considering the anti-German feelings at that time. Many vessels on the British register with Germanic sounding names had them changed.
