Mike Jones Posted 27 March , 2009 Posted 27 March , 2009 Hi all Looking for information on the following soldier? 12963 Private Cecil Lloyd 2nd Battalion The Hampshire Regiment. Also served with the Machine Gun Corps Can't find him on National Archives MIC Would anyone be able to find him, looking for COPY OF MIC Also does anybody have any information on the battle of POZIERS JULY/AUGUST 1916. the only info I can find is all about the Australian Divisions. but the 2nd Battalion Hampshire Regiment were involved. Thanks all for reading this Mike.
sotonmate Posted 27 March , 2009 Posted 27 March , 2009 Mike Have you got the right number ? I searched MICs on number and regiment only and came up with 12963 George W Lucas Hampshire Regt. He was also in Devonshire Regt later as 30672. I don't see 2 Hants in the order of battle for Pozieres (88 Brigade of 29 Division). They were at Albert (whole of 29 Div)in July and Le Transloy (88 Bde only) in October. Maybe you mean that he was in the MGC for Pozieres? Do you have a number for him for that unit ? Sotonmate
Marc Thompson Posted 27 March , 2009 Posted 27 March , 2009 Mike His MIC is on Ancestry and confirms: Hamps Regiment Pte 12963 M.G.C. 130405 Entitled to a BWM and VM - roll MGC/101B80 page 6385 Marc
sotonmate Posted 27 March , 2009 Posted 27 March , 2009 Mike Marc has found it and I wonder why the same number was used for two soldiers ! My search was on the NA record. In any case he has also posted the Medal Roll reference so you might get to find out the unit number for his MGC service, then you can determine who he was fighting with at Pozieres, get the War Diary ref and read about it ! Sotonmate
