Clive Temple Posted 26 March , 2009 Posted 26 March , 2009 Hi Pals, Google street cam now covers an area of about 30 miles radius around Amiens including Flixecourt, Vignacourt, Albert etc. Go to google maps and drag the little orange man (on top of the left hand scale slider) to the street you want to view (anything in blue is covered), drop him there and you'll see how the street looks now. Useful to anyone wanting to pinpoint old photos or get a then and now view. Sorry if this has already been posted.
Clive Temple Posted 26 March , 2009 Author Posted 26 March , 2009 Just had a play 'walking' down the road into Albert... pals, this is seriously cool!!! Not sure how to post a link to a specific location/view but I think we are gonna have an awful lot of fun with this! Perhaps google will add a facility to enable people to add photos (in the same way photos of views can be added to google earth). Imagine being able to stroll down the road, turn into a graveyard and then view a specific grave!!! Check it out you're going to love it.
Clive Temple Posted 26 March , 2009 Author Posted 26 March , 2009 When you find a place of interest got to link>paste a link in email and copy the url. Here's a link to a view along the Amiens to Albert road. Click, hold and drag to get a 360 view and click on the arrows in the road to move forward. The link maintains the actual direction of the view including any zooming that you have done. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...859375000000005 I know you guys know this area like the back of your hand and will find all the key locations in the area very quickly.
Clive Temple Posted 26 March , 2009 Author Posted 26 March , 2009 Here's the Thiepval Memorial seen from the road. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source...874999999999942
cockney tone Posted 26 March , 2009 Posted 26 March , 2009 Clive, thanks for alerting me to this, the link to Thiepval is very impressive, hours of harmless fun about to be had and the collge essay takes a back seat again! Regards and best wishes, Scottie.
irishmen1916 Posted 26 March , 2009 Posted 26 March , 2009 Thanks Clive, this is great, of to Italy next week, and just looked up the Hotel, (looks like a kip). Cant wait to try this out on the Somme. Peter
