jones31 Posted 23 March , 2009 Posted 23 March , 2009 Hi. Can anyone help me with contemporary maps from the above period? I would be particularly pleased to see trench maps from CHIMPANZEE VALLEY ( 6TH SEPT), the area around FALFEMONT FARM (7TH SEPT), LEUZE WOOD (8TH SEPT), COMBLES TRENCH (9TH SEPT) AND LOOP TRENCH(9TH SEPT). I wish to travel to the area and follow the movements of the LRB from Gommecourt to Combles. I have been made aware of various locations and dates connected with the LRB e.g they were in HANNESCAMPS on 8/7, 19/7 and 15/8 but I always want to learn more. If you have done a similar trip I'd be delighted to receive any tips and advice. Thank you for reading this.
chrrip Posted 26 March , 2009 Posted 26 March , 2009 Why not order a copy of the War Diary covering this period from the NA. This will give you the Battalions daily movements. I have visited all the places you mention and the Diary contains a map of the attack on Gommecourt. The History also contains maps of Leuze Wood and les Boeufs; you will certainly need trench maps for these two places for your visit. Chris

Can I expect to find traces of the presence of the LR in the places mentioned? Is there anything I should especially look out for? Again, thanks for your reply. I+an
