izzy Posted 22 March , 2009 Posted 22 March , 2009 I have information that one of the servicemen that im researching lost a wife in the sinking of the S.S Persia on the 30th december 1915. How can i find information on this lady she is not mentioned on the local war memorial which i assume is because she was not from the locality. I have checked the probate indexes and i cannot find a mention of her in them. Her name is Mary Eliza Leather who was married to John Leather[ died 18/09/14 in India] she married him in 1890 in Allahabad India after her 1st husband died. Any information on how to take this research would be welcome. How unusual is it for a married couple to have died in the great war ?
Jim Strawbridge Posted 22 March , 2009 Posted 22 March , 2009 As a civilian her name is unlikely to appear on a war memorial. As each memorial committee had it's own criteria there will be exceptions but rare.
