melliget Posted 22 March , 2009 Posted 22 March , 2009 Hi. Does anyone know if Musician or Bandsman was the official rating of this type in the RAN post WW1, if I can bend the rules just a little? regards, Martin
joseph Posted 22 March , 2009 Posted 22 March , 2009 If they had the same structure as the Royal Navy; These are RM rates Band Boy Musician Band Corporal Bandmaster 2nd class Bandmaster, 1st class The RN ordered the Rate of Bandsman and Musician to die out on 01/10/1907 so both could be extant in the 1920's Sorry not an answer really, any more info on your man. Regards Charles
David B Posted 22 March , 2009 Posted 22 March , 2009 Martin, As far as I can remember these guys were called Musicians, Ableseaman Muso, Leadingseaman Muso etc. The only person with a band tag was the bandmaster. david
melliget Posted 23 March , 2009 Author Posted 23 March , 2009 Thanks very much, guys. I re-read the service record involved and noticed something I hadn't seen before. After his rating was approved to be changed from Able Seaman to Bandsman, a couple of weeks later it was changed again to Musician! I'm sure some of the guys that filled out these records later became doctors, as in some cases I'd have a better chance with hieroglyphics. But once I worked out what it said, it became clear. cheers, Martin
