HarteE Posted 20 March , 2009 Posted 20 March , 2009 Trying to organise a family trip to the Brownes Road Cemetry at Festubert. People coming from Ireland mainly but also from the UK. Anyone got any hints about best places tro stay, best way to organise the logistics (best nearest town to use as base etc).
n cherry Posted 20 March , 2009 Posted 20 March , 2009 Depends on how far you'd want to travel every day......if you want a few bright lights and a range of hotels/restaurants and perhaps shopping for the ladies.....Arras would be my suggestion......
stevem49 Posted 20 March , 2009 Posted 20 March , 2009 Try sending a PM to Michel Knockaert as he lives near there and I am sure he can help you. Top man as they say now! Steve
59165 Posted 20 March , 2009 Posted 20 March , 2009 Trying to organise a family trip to the Brownes Road Cemetry at Festubert. People coming from Ireland mainly but also from the UK. Anyone got any hints about best places tro stay, best way to organise the logistics (best nearest town to use as base etc). The best & most reasonably priced place to stay is in Richebourg,I believe.I have booked it for many pals who wanted to see the area & all have been happy. Now,if only I could remember the name . Yeah.Tom Rutherford would know.PM 'truthergw' & he'll let you know. Best town out of the nearest is Béthune. Be sure to go to Le Touret & say hi to me folks . Have a great trip. Dave.
dycer Posted 20 March , 2009 Posted 20 March , 2009 Festubert, The Village,or Town, is a place,I wish to walk or drive through.,simply because my Uncles's Battalion was involved in that Battle, but he survived,to fight another day. Surely,Folks, The Forum, can help,Harte,to find accommodation,in the Festubert area, but allow, him to find and guide, and help, other members of his Family,to the last resting, place,of a Family member, who did not survive, but is buried, safely. But, without the distraction of 90 years retrospective historical research, which leads,to the over-egging of 1915 reality. George
Admin Michelle Young Posted 20 March , 2009 Admin Posted 20 March , 2009 I think this is the place Dave mentioned, I booked my dad and uncle in there a couple of years back BAVIERE Christiane & André Ferme les Caperies 106, Rue des Charbonniers 62136 RICHEBOURG Tel : 03.21.26.07.19 E-mail: abaviere@orange.fr Fax : 03.21.26.07.19 Michelle
HarteE Posted 8 April , 2009 Author Posted 8 April , 2009 Many thanks for your help and guidance. Looks like the planned trip is about to happen and a badly neglected chapter of family history can be closed. Once again thanks for your invaluable assistance - Angus
