Old Contemptibles pub

I thought you might all like to see the following pub sign from Birmingham city centre. The Old Contemptibles was refurbished fairly recently and the old pub sign, a picture of a tin hatted soldier on watch in a trench, replaced with this. It seems that someone knows their history.

This is just not any old pub. This is the drill hall and HQ of the Birmingham Pals of the Great War Forum!

The old sign showed a Tommy in a tin hat in a Somme-like trench.

Would this pub be walking distance from the NIA? I am there next month for a concert and if it is, I would like to pop in for a pint.

This should help.

Wouldn't a Tommy in a cap SD standing in a Mons-type trench have been more appropriate?

Fifteen minutes from the NIA to the pub.

I have that map printed off and ready, but what street is the pub on?

176 Edmund St behind Snowhill railway station.

Look out for all the law students in there though !!!
