TEW Posted 18 March , 2009 Posted 18 March , 2009 Forum Any thoughts on this entry, Posted ‘Expeditionary Force’ 11/7/1918 but unit given as TBD or JBD. Could it be ‘To be determined’ also the M battalion?? Thanks TEW
MelPack Posted 18 March , 2009 Posted 18 March , 2009 It is IBD =Infantry Base Depot from which he was transferred to the Devons. Mel
TEW Posted 18 March , 2009 Author Posted 18 March , 2009 Mel, And the 'M' is just a unit number I guess?. He later (16/7/1918) joined 'K' IBD at Calais, but from what I can find the IBD's in France were usually numbered eg 14th & 17th?? TEW
Graham Stewart Posted 18 March , 2009 Posted 18 March , 2009 He goes from the 53rd(YS)Bn, Leicesters to;- '52nd'(Grad)Bn Leicesters - 'Grad' = 'Graduated' and is the logical step at this stage of his career. To the 'IBD' which is the Infantry Base Depot as already mentioned. Then to '1/5th' Bn, Devons, who were serving in France & Flanders. Back to the Devons Depot 'D'.
TEW Posted 20 March , 2009 Author Posted 20 March , 2009 Graham, Mel Thanks for the replies, all noted TW
