Roger H Posted 18 March , 2009 Share Posted 18 March , 2009 Can anyone identify the Regiment of these fine fellows? The photo belonged to my uncle whose father (my grandfather) was in the Yorkshire Regiment. However, my grandfather does not appear in the picture so I do not want to automatically assume that these men were also in the Yorkshire Regiment. Thanks for any help. Steven Broomfield Posted 18 March , 2009 Share Posted 18 March , 2009 Might be worth a close-up, but from a distance certainly looks the right shape for the Yorkshire regt (Green Howards)
squirrel Posted 18 March , 2009 Share Posted 18 March , 2009 Looks the right shape for the Green Howards to me as well.

CROONAERT Posted 18 March , 2009 Share Posted 18 March , 2009 Tall, thin cap badges... ...spurs ... ...breeches... ... lanyards... ...'03 belts... ...puttees fastening at the ankle... ..."mounted" stud pattern on the sole of the boots... ...11th Hussars
Graham Stewart Posted 18 March , 2009 Share Posted 18 March , 2009 Or possibly Yorkshire Hussars? The belt's being worn are typical of Territorials pre-war, although no guarantee.
max7474 Posted 18 March , 2009 Share Posted 18 March , 2009 I would go with Yorkshire Hussars. Alan

CROONAERT Posted 18 March , 2009 Share Posted 18 March , 2009 The close-up certainly makes it look like the Yorkshire Hussars (didn't realise their badge appeared so "tall" though when worn). Definately cavalry (or, at least, "mounted") though through all the other evidence. Dave.

Roger H Posted 19 March , 2009 Author Share Posted 19 March , 2009 The Yorkshire Hussars is now begining to make sense. Having spoken to my father, he recalls his mother's brother (both from Yorkshire) was "in the cavalary" and I now suspect he is one of the men in the photograph.
