Tinhat47 Posted 16 March , 2009 Posted 16 March , 2009 Working on researching yet another medal ... this time it's Pte. Albert BURNS, service no. 4400. The free MIC lookup at the National Archives says he was in the 1st London Regiment but I'm not sure if that's 1/1st, 2/1st or 3/1st battalion. If it was indeed 1/1st, then I see by service numbers that he enlisted sometime between May and July 1915, probably mid-June. Apparently he later spent time as a L.Cpl in the Labour Corps under service no. 224326. Would any member be so kind as to see if there's anything on the actual MIC image from Ancestry or perhaps a service record? Thanks!
Tinhat47 Posted 16 March , 2009 Author Posted 16 March , 2009 Thanks! I'm guess that "Disemb." means when he returned home from the war?
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 16 March , 2009 Posted 16 March , 2009 Disembodied = the Territorial version of discharged. It would be 1/1st; 2/1st were in Gallipoli (unless just to confuse you he passed through France to get to the Mediterranean); 3/1st still at home. See the useful Long Long Trail and the medal roll.
Tinhat47 Posted 16 March , 2009 Author Posted 16 March , 2009 Ah, you're right there ... France on the MIC being the key. What confused me is that I found a post in this subforum from a few years ago from a guy looking for a relative he said was in the 1st Londons at Gallipoli ... which was actually the 3/1st Londons.
