Hi All,

have a chap who has HMS Topaze II, and HMS Minerva II, on his papers from May to August 1912. I know the HMS Topaze and HMS Minerva are on the 1912 Navy lists as depot ships for destroyer Flotilla's, so i'm assuming here that the II's are an accounting base or books for these Flotilla's. Generally the navy lists state, taking for an example, HMS Fisgard II, which has listed it's previous name, so that's why i'm heading down the path of an accounting base or books.

Hopefully someone out there knows?

Cheers DB.

Tenders could also be called ship name II, especially pre war.

Hi per ardua per mare per terram,

noticed on the Navy Lists that HMS Topaze was with the 6th Destoryer Flotllia at this time, and went in for refit was was temporaly replaced by HMS Minerva, so whatever this chap was doing he was somehow tied to the actual ships, and no tenders listed with the same name with II, only a long list of destroyers as her tenders.

Cheers DB.

Secondary ships/ tenders rarely appear in the Navy list. In WWI President did, President II didn't etc.

His 'ships book number' will indicate wether he was ships company or part of the flottila.

Hi Charles,

in the two columns next to the ships name HMS Topaze II, he has 13' 6 and when he went over to and HMS Minerva II it is the same.

Cheers DB.

Darren,

Permanent supernumeraries borne in addition to complement. So 'ships company' no doubt loaned to ships as required.

Hi Charles,

thanks for that, you should pen to papers on these hard ones.

Cheers DB.
