Thinking of staying in Talbot House for 3 nights, has anybody stayed there? What sort of standard is it,and what is the breakfast like? Most gratefull for any advice.

The accommodation is basic, but comfortable. Showers and toilets are all shared, and there is no breakfast - it is self catering. However, no where else could replicate the thrill (if that is the right word), experience or atmosphere of staying in a place like Talbot House. You are surrounded by, and live amongst history... and there is little better of an evening having the house to yourself and climbing the old steps to the chapel in the hop loft. Even if you just spend one night there before moving on to modernity or greater comfort, or better food... nothing will eclipse that time spent in the 'old house'.

Totally agree with Paul's assessement of Talbot House having stayed there

on two occasions (1997 and 2001) on visits from Australia.

Although self catering ,there are very reasonably priced eateries close handy

and for the budget minded a good "chippy" plus a good supermarket for self-catering supplies.

As Paul points out the history of Talbot House is a bonus on its own.

And from my part it was a "must do" as Tubby Clayton after all was Australian.

Have'nt stayed there in a while, but the last time I did, the bakery next door offerred full English breakfast. You took it next door to the old house, washed the plate up and then returned it to the bakers. Went down a treat!

Stayed there for a week in August 2007 with my then 15 year old son, we both loved it, real, living history. I think he photographed every part of the house and the artifacts.

Would recommend it to everyone. Son number two, now nearly 4 years old will get his turn in a few years when he can really appreciate it.
