Ink,

If you p.m. me your e-mail address I'll forward a copy of the 8th R.S. War History.

It should record his D.C.M. but not the date or place when he "stood above the others".

From the Battalion History,

"The Battalion took up their assembly position for the attack on the night of the 8th,but it was not until the 16th that the Battalion occupied the front line. While other troops had the incentive of going forward, the Battalion was ordered to hold their position. They were subjected to incessant and very heavy shell-fire,and suffered considerably. At about 1 p.m. on the 18th May 1915,Lieutenant-Colonel A. Brook was mortally wounded"

From the Battalion War Diary.

17th May 1915-The attack was continued by the 21st Brigade on the flank and the Battalion was ordered to hold on to ground occupied and in so doing so suffered slight loss from shell fire.

1st July 1915-No 7573 L/C McCluckie,No 741 Pte Rintoul R.D. were awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallant conduct in the field.
