Chris_Baker Posted 11 March , 2009 Posted 11 March , 2009 Can anyone please confirm if and when Captain H. John Blampied was attached to 2nd Black Watch as MO? A medal index card implies he was.
gnr.ktrha Posted 11 March , 2009 Posted 11 March , 2009 Is he not the same man who wrote 'With a Highland Regiment in Mesepotania'? I am sure he was. I am fairly sure he was. Regards, Stewart Yes, it was, here is a link to the book. http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=cr...%2C%20H.%20J%22 Regards, Stewart
ronmarsden Posted 11 March , 2009 Posted 11 March , 2009 Chris, He joined the 2nd Battn 22.7.16, he was originally with the 11th Batt. Ron.
Black Jock Posted 12 March , 2009 Posted 12 March , 2009 Chris, From the limited regimental sources I have, Blampied had a Short Service Regular commission in the Black Watch, dated 06/08/1915. He was posted as has been mentioned to the 2nd Black Watch 22/07/1916. He became sick 31/10/1916 and returned to duty 13/01/1917. On the 27/01/1917 he was posted to the sensor staff at the Base. It would appear that he remained there throughout the campaign, as he is not credited as having taken part in any of the actions carried out by the 2nd Bn. My take on the MIC is that he was involved with Intelligence and not Medical. According to the Officer Roll he remained a 2nd Lieutenant. There is no mention of his promotion to Captain as the MIC shows. As Stewart mentioned he was the author of 'With a Highland Regiment in Mesepotania' as no doubt he would have had a comfortable billet to write his book. I wonder how much old Arthur Wauchope had a hand in the book? Tom
