Malcolm Linham Posted 11 March , 2009 Share Posted 11 March , 2009 In July 2008 the Government publicly consulted whether to transfer some personal records from the MoD into the custody of the National Archieve. I have just listened to the N/A podcast in relation to the RAF and mention was made that the records are going to be transferred. Does anyone know if and when this is going to happen, I am stuck on some research of a pre war regular, Bertram Linham Pte 6199 1st Batt Dorset's captured at Le Bassee 14th October 1914. I have copies of his Mic and his prisoner of war statement from WO 161 but I would like to see his service record, at present I cannot locate a next of kin within the family. themonsstar Posted 11 March , 2009 Share Posted 11 March , 2009 Have you had a look in WO79 (service records) for the RAF at Kew
Malcolm Linham Posted 12 March , 2009 Author Share Posted 12 March , 2009 Themonsstar. I have only checked on line, the N/A record still indicates Raf records between 1818 and 1928. This is why I was asking the question, as its a long way to travel to be disapointed. Malcolm
shinglma Posted 12 March , 2009 Share Posted 12 March , 2009 Malcolm I recall the consultation exercise being mentioned on the National Archives website. Since then I've not seen any further news announcements so I think you can safely assume that they have not been transferred yet. Malcolm Linham Posted 12 March , 2009 Author Share Posted 12 March , 2009 Mike Thank you, that's what I was afraid of. I shall have to be patient and wait. Malcolm
