Cameron2165 Posted 11 March , 2009 Share Posted 11 March , 2009 Hi, I'm researching my great great uncle. I have his mic from the NA, but I wondered if someone with access to Ancestery could look on the back of the mic for any other info please. Details:- 19286 Pte Noah Powell 10th Btn RWF. Thanks in advance Cam.

sotonmate Posted 11 March , 2009 Share Posted 11 March , 2009 Cam http://www.cwgc.org/search/certificate.aspx?casualty=504945 Being buried at Etaples will likely suggest that he died of wounds at one of our hospitals there (though not certain as we had a large camp there too). SDGW will say. Sotonmate
sotonmate Posted 11 March , 2009 Share Posted 11 March , 2009 Cam It is possible that he was wounded at the Battle of Cambrai in late 1917. I would suggest that it would be around the time of the German counter-attack of 30 Nov to 3 Dec. See these pages from the Long Long Trail,at top left of this page about the battle and 3 Division that he served in as an element of 76 Brigade,10 RWF landed in France Sept 1915: http://www.1914-1918.net/bat21.htm http://www.1914-1918.net/3div.htm There is a War Diary at Kew for the 10 RWF,under WO95/1436,and it runs for the length of their involvement from Sept 1915 up to disbandment in Feb 1918. Cameron2165 Posted 11 March , 2009 Author Share Posted 11 March , 2009 Thanks for all the help. I down loaded the war diary for the battalion a while ago, Noah was in the trenches at Bullecourt? when injured. My family seem to think he was gassed which does look likely as there were gas casulties during this period at Bullecourt. He would appear to have lasted quite a while as he was injured end of November and died 13.12.17. Would the medics have thought he had a good chance of survival and sent him to Etaples or were all gas casulties sent there?
