I wonder of anyone had come across details of the 14-18 activities of Lt Frank Berkeley James? Commissioned into the Lincolns in 1902, he served during the Great War in an appointment to the Intelligence Corps. But what, exactly, was he doing? I'd be grateful for any insight.

Probably a bit late now, but Winchester College records state:

"RMC; 2nd Lieut Lincolnshire Regt 1902; farming 1907; shipping agency, Spain 1909; Staff Lieut France 1916; Vice-Consul Barcelona (Intell.Corps); acting consul S. Sebastian."

London Gazette December 19th 1916:

"SPECIAL APPOINTMENTS.

(Graded for purposes of pay as a Staff Capt.). —Temp. Lt. E. C. Barker, Shrops. L.I., and to be temp. Capt. whilst so empld. 17th Nov. 1916.

(Graded for purposes of pay as Staff Lts., 3rd Cl.).—Temp. 2nd Lt. A. E. A. Fremantle. 17th Nov. 1916. Frank Berkeley James, and to be temp. 2nd Lt. 9th Dec. 1916."

I can't recall why I asked the question, Shaun, but thank you very much. I must have my notes somewhere and will add this to it.

Chris, do you have any evidence Frank served in the North Somerset Yeomanry in 1915 as a private? Thanks, Paul
