Zeli Posted 24 February , 2009 Share Posted 24 February , 2009 Have finally (after days of questions and searching) narrowed down the placement of my GGrandfather. Likely to be 61st Division according to the new 6 digit number he was assigned. However the 61st Division page is missing on LLT and unable to track down comprehensive information elsewhere. I understand the 305th battery SM 2/1 Bde was part of the 61st Division? But can find no information about where the 305th battery were in France. Am I being a dunce and missing an obvious source (apart from NArchives). Thanks Zeli
rflory Posted 25 February , 2009 Share Posted 25 February , 2009 The 2/1 South Midland Brigade became 305 Brigade, RFA (not 305 Battery as you indicate) in the 61st Divisional Artillery. On 16 and 17 September 1916 305th Brigade, RFA was broken up: one-half of A Battery went to C Battery, 307 Brigade, RFA; the other half of A Battery went to A Battery, 306 Brigade, RFA; one-half of B Battery, went to C Battery, 306 Brigade, RFA and the other half went to B Battery, 306 Brigade, RFA; one-half of C Battery went to A Battery, 307 Brigade, RFA and the other half went to B Battery, 307 Brigade, RFA.
