in 1914 ,the german gunboat sms geier was interned in honolulu harbour for three years, in 1917 when america entered the war. the us navy seized the geier and her collier.the crews were arrested and incaserated as pow`s. were the pow`s taken to the mainland usa, or were they held on the island.....mike.

It's been a long time and I don't know if you are still interested in the answer to this question, but as of July 1917 they were interned at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. By September 1917 they had been transferred to Fort Douglas in Utah. I used the POW card of Ernst Rehfeldt on the Red Cross site to find out that information (I was originally looking for the captain, Rashoff according to Hawaiian newspapers, but didn't find him).

The Captain of SMS Geier was Korvetten-Kapitän Carl Graßhof

Thank you, that explains the fruitlessness of my previous search...
