Esskay Posted 19 February , 2009 Share Posted 19 February , 2009 my great -grandfather was in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers I think this is some of his records ;how will I find out more about him . If this is him - he has a few pages on Ancestry "Pension Records" Joined as a regular in Dublin 6th May 1901 aged 17 years 9 months - initially for 7 years service then 5 in the reserve - but later extended Born St Michaels Parish, Dublin - employed as a Porter before joining up Height 5 feet 3 and a quarter inches Weight 115 llbs (Looks like) - dark complexion - blue eyes - fair hair Certainly lived up to the old saying - "join the army and see the world" Next of kin + marriage and children were recorded He was mobilized at Naas on 5th August 1914 and his Medal Card - also on Ancestry has his entry into theatre of war date to qualify for a 1914 Star as 12th September 1914 He was recorded wounded - gas - on 26th May 1915 - and the outline of his war service - that I'll have to put in the next post due to picture size limitations says he was taken prisoner on 28th March 1918 - and repatriated 1st January 1919 No doubt the experts will be able to tell you lots more - but if it is him - you are pretty lucky to have so much survive the WW2 bombing that destroyed so many records Cheers Sue
