saintlo990 Posted 13 February , 2009 Share Posted 13 February , 2009 The "EXPLANATORY LIST OF SERVICE MARKINGS to be found on ammunition 1918" on page 11 states that the 1 pounder cartridge for the Mk III gun will have SP1 on the white ring and a green cross on the base. Thes markings being discontinued on future supplies. I have never seen a green cross on the base, or a white band - looking at about 18 examples. but most of these were polished. None of the the observed had a white band, but were buff with a top red band and middle green band. Several were repainted however and several were totally unpainted. The ammunition for the Mk V gun is not mentioned although it is the same. Does anyone have an original round or specifications for factory markings?
