paul leeson Posted 13 February , 2009 Share Posted 13 February , 2009 From the clues I have my GF's training in the UK seems to have been about 4 months. From mobilization the crossing the channel. Does that sound about right? Thank you in advance. Paul.
squirrel Posted 13 February , 2009 Share Posted 13 February , 2009 One RGA man I researched volunteered in September 1915, joined his battery on formation in October, had their guns issued in December, went to F & F in May 1916 and their first engagement was for the bombardment for the battle of the Somme in June. So it looks like it varied depending on whether the individual joined a battery that had already formed at home or overseas, or a newly raised battery and when that had their guns issued. Further training would also have been carried out in theatre as well by the look of it.
paul leeson Posted 13 February , 2009 Author Share Posted 13 February , 2009 Yes, good point, my GF seems to have gone to an established battery. He also seems to have been at a base depot in France for a week, so as you say possibly he had a bit of extratraining there. Paul.
