Terry Denham Posted 24 March , 2004 Share Posted 24 March , 2004 HMS Victory was the name for the shorebase at Portsmouth (where the preserved HMS Victory is located). Therefore the reference to 'Victory' will relate to his time ashore. All shore establishments were named after ships as the Naval Discipline Act only applied to ships' crews and so this ruse was a means to get around the problem. Amberden Posted 26 March , 2004 Share Posted 26 March , 2004 My father was also a POW in WW2 and was one of a huge number of men who were captured before Dunkirk. This huge column of men was marched into Germany and Poland where they were sent to various POW camps. If you have your fathers service number or his POW number the International Red Cross in Geneva will supply you with details of his POW records as they have them. It does take a while but in my fathers case was worth the wait.
