Does anyone have access to a copy of the book

A Highland Regiment (2nd Battalion The Black Watch) in Mesopotamia ?

I am trying to discover details of a railway accident in India in 1917 where a number men on leave from Sammarah were killed.

Do you know the date of the accident?

My copy of 'Railway Disasters of the World' lists one accident in India that year - on 23.07.17. 20 killed.

If this is the one, I can pass on what little detail there is in the book.

Terry

The man concerned is

EDWARD ADAM SOUTER

Private

S/19755

2nd Bn., Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

Monday, 13th August 1917. Age 21.

The Army Death Certificate return states he died in railway accident. Three other were listed in the list with same date and cause. I assumed the accident happened that day, maybe not. He and others were on leave from Mesopotamia.

He is buried at buried in Trimulgherry Cantonment Cemetery, Secunderabad

I assume the accident will have happened in the area local to the Trimulgherry Garrison.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

The accident description does not give the location.

It seems unlikely that four of them would be injured in this July crash and all wait three weeks to die on the same day in August!

The book only lists those accidents with 20 fatalities or more.
