AOK4 Posted 24 March , 2004 Share Posted 24 March , 2004 Hello, I organized an exhibition in Gheluvelt (when my book was published) back in November 2002 (together with Philippe Oosterlinck (Hooge Crater Museum) and Frankie Van Rossem). I finally managed to scan a few pictures and put them on my website. I hope you enjoy them! Pictures of the exhibition in Gheluvelt 2002

Dikke Bertha Posted 25 March , 2004 Share Posted 25 March , 2004 Hello Forgive my ignorance. What was the title of your book - is it recent? Does it deal with Gheluvelt in 1914 or throughout the war??
AOK4 Posted 25 March , 2004 Author Share Posted 25 March , 2004 Hello, The title of my book is 'Halfweg Menin Road en Ypernstrasse. Gheluvelt 1914-1918'. It was published in 2002 and covers the period 1914-1923 (app.), the war and rebuilding of the village. Jan
Groetjes

gem22 Posted 26 March , 2004 Share Posted 26 March , 2004 Jan A nice set of pictures but I have two questions: 1. Was it normal for German troops wearing Red Cross armbands to carry weapons? 2. Are you likely to repeat the exhibition? I'm sure lots of Pals would like another chance to see it. Garth
AOK4 Posted 29 March , 2004 Author Share Posted 29 March , 2004 Hello Garth, Well, German troops with Red Cross armbands didn't carry weapons in the frontline but they often carried weapons in the rear areas apparently. From this weekend on there is an exhibition by the same people in the Yser Tower about the Flanders' mud and we will be making an exhibition about Bisseghem in WW1 in November. egbert Posted 3 March , 2007 Share Posted 3 March , 2007 Unfortunately my good friend Jan is not any longer a member of this forum - too much bulls&% with the former thread "rape of Belgium". You may contact him if you click on the AOK4 link and check for his personal website link where you should be able to contact him.

Its a bit of a pity, he is no longer a contriutor as it is always interesting to hear the other side to the 'argument. It sounds as if he obviously was very passionate/emotional about the subject.
