OpsMajor Posted 4 February , 2009 Share Posted 4 February , 2009 From recently acquired service records my grandfather (aged 51years!) extended his service in April 1920 by 6 months and was posted from RAOC, Arquata (Italy) to the GRU in Gallipoli. Was this a way of staying in the army or was there a better 'pay off' from this unit when demobbed? What work would he have been doing with the GRU (is that obvious!). Was this the organisation before the CWGC? Krs Mike
Terry Denham Posted 4 February , 2009 Share Posted 4 February , 2009 The GRU was an army unit which undertook the clearances and reburials. CWGC only took over the cemeteries after this process was complete.
